Can I use my wood burner in a smoke control area?
Usually, yes, as long as the stove is Defra-exempt or you only burn an authorised smokeless fuel. Most London boroughs, Enfield included, are covered by smoke control orders, so check with your council if you're not sure about your street. We'll look at your stove on the day and tell you what we can see.
My flat shares a chimney stack with the neighbours. Can you still sweep it?
Yes. We work out which flue is yours, sweep it from inside your flat and smoke-test it to make sure nothing is leaking into the flue next door. If the stack itself needs work, that's normally one for the freeholder, and we'll put what we found in writing.
Do I need a chimney sweep certificate?
Many home insurers ask for one each year if you have a stove or open fire, and landlords and letting agents often want one too.
