How much does a chimney sweep cost in Hertfordshire?

Can you sweep a chimney in a listed building or conservation area?

Yes. Sweeping is routine maintenance and needs no consent. Changes such as new cowls, liners or stack repairs on a listed building may need consent, and we'll flag that before quoting.

Can I use my log burner in a smoke control area?

Yes, as long as the stove is Defra-exempt for burning wood, or you burn authorised smokeless fuel. In any stove, use dry Ready to Burn wood with less than 20% moisture. Your district council can confirm whether your street is covered.

Do I need a sweeping certificate for my home insurance?

Many insurers ask for proof that the chimney has been swept regularly, especially if you ever need to claim after a chimney fire. You get a certificate after every sweep.
